SWRA National Endorsement Regulations
January 2000
Purpose:
The following regulations are used to govern and administer the endorsement of warbird pylon races conducted by organizations participating on a local, regional, or national level in the SWRA. These regulations further describe the administrative and procedural methods the Scale Warbird Racing Association uses in maintaining the national season point accumulation program to track SWRA members’ annual season point totals for fixed bracket Mini-Reno warbird races.
National and District Boundaries for Race Administration:
District Boundaries – The SWRA will be divided into eleven districts matching the eleven districts of the Academy of Model Aeronautics.
National Boundaries – The SWRA defines the active region of the organization to be limited to the continental United States.
Race Classification of Size and Scope:
Exhibition Event: An exhibition event is intended for modeler participation from a small geographic area. No points will be awarded to participating pilots for the national season point accumulation program; however, this type of event can receive recognition status, including it on the SWRA calendar and allowing it to be eligible for promotional assistance through the SWRA newsletter. An exhibition event will be granted exclusively scheduled dates for a 50-mile radius from the site where the race will be held. Participation in an endorsed exhibition event may be restricted at the discretion of the contest director.
Regional Event: An event at this level is appropriate for participation by modelers within the district and national boundaries. All SWRA members, who are participants in fixed bracket warbird races endorsed as regional events, will be included in the national season point accumulation program. For an event to receive endorsement as a regional race, all of the SWRA’s rules must be followed in conducting the event, unless the SWRA Race Committee approved specific changes as part of the endorsement procedure. A regional event cannot be have any entry restrictions unless they deal with the total number of contestants that can be supported by the site and time considerations. Events endorsed as regional events will be granted exclusively scheduled dates for a radius of 150 miles from the site where the race will be held.
District Championship Event: Each district may hold one district wide championship event. This event will not contribute to the national season point accumulation program, but would be eligible to be included in the SWRA calendar and for promotional assistance through the SWRA newsletter. This event would be subject to strict rules compliance. The SWRA race committee will coordinate the location of the district championship with the local organizations wishing to hold a championship race. A district championship event will be granted exclusive dates within the entire district.
National Event: The SWRA race committee will determine the site of the SWRA national race. The SWRA race committee will directly supervise the national event. No other SWRA event will be scheduled on the dates assigned to the national race. Entry requirements and criteria will be determined by the SWRA race committee. Organizations wishing to host the SWRA national event should contact the race committee chairman.
Applying for Endorsement:
Forms: Applications for SWRA endorsement of an event must be made using the SWRA race endorsement application form included in this handbook as an attachment. An AMA sanction is required to be submitted with the endorsement application. Additionally, a copy of the host club’s Charter from the Academy of Model Aeronautics is also required to be submitted with the endorsement application.
Date assignment: Dates will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis with the following exception. Any endorsed regional event will automatically have the same weekend in the same month reserved for the following year. The host organization, or contest director, of such an event, must apply for endorsement to hold another event on those same dates within 3 months of the reserved dates. Otherwise the reserved dates become available for others.
National Point Accumulation Program:
Only SWRA members in good standing are eligible to participate in the yearlong season points accumulation program. The points will be accumulated for fixed bracket races only, from January 1 through December 31 each year. At the end of this season, the SWRA will provide and award trophies to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers in each of the Gold, Silver, and Bronze classes. Season points for each race are calculated separately from the total score a contestant receives at any given fixed bracket race, and are based on the contestant’s finishing position within his/her class, and the number of other contestants the member finished ahead of. This is the formula that is used to compute the season points: The total number of entrants in your class minus your finishing place, multiplied by, the total number of entrants in your class divided by 5, plus 5 points. Example: There were 20 contestants in the Silver class and you placed 4th in Silver.
(20 - 4) X (20/5) + 5 = 69 season points
Season points are calculated and tracked by the SWRA race committee for all SWRA members.
Reporting of Race Results:
Contest directors, or the host club, are required to submit the results of the endorsed race to the SWRA race committee chairman by mail within 7 days following the conclusion of the event. The attached SWRA race results form is to be used for this reporting; with at least one heat sheet form being used for each racing class, (depending on the number of entrants in each class). This information is needed to complete the endorsement process, and is used to establish and track the season point totals competitors may have earned during the event toward their national accumulated season points. Failure to provide such information will prevent the SWRA from including earned season points from your race to the national total.
